 Population Growth

Population growth refers to the negative or positive change in the population of a certain region over a given period of time.

• Negative change in population is called negative population growth. That is, there is a decrease in the population.

• Positive change is called positive population growth ie increase in population.

Example 1. - If a certain time period of a certain area A is assumed that the population increases from 100 to 120 in a year, then there is a positive increase in the population and this increase is 120 -100 = 20 persons.

Example - 2. If the population of a certain area B decreases from 100 to 80 in a given time period, then there is a negative increase in the population and this increase is 80 - 100 = -20 i.e. negative growth is 20 i.e. 20 There has been a shortage of individuals.

Types of Population Growth

1. Natural growth - is determined only on the basis of birth rate or mortality. 2. Anatomical growth - An increase that occurs due to immigration or migration in an area is a gradual growth.

Think

How much is the world population increasing? Is the whole world increasing or decreasing equally?

In which areas of the world is the population increase more and in which areas is the population growth decreasing and why?

What are the reasons for increase or decrease in population? Where should the population increase and where should the population decrease? Are problems arising out of population growth?

Impact of Population Growth -

The effect of positive population growth or decrease or increase in population derived from negative population growth may be useful or unhelpful in relation to the available resources and the technology and capacity of their use in this area, it has been studied under optimal population.

2. Population density: - Before understanding this, imagine that one kilogram of cotton or cotton is placed on one side on one side and one kilogram of iron is placed on the other side.

 Think and provoke why?

………………………… Yes you thought right, both of them will be equal weight because both of them There are kilos. But the volume is different. Because the particles made of cotton are away from each other, while the particles made of iron are close to each other, when they pass in a volume or area, more particles come in less area. That is, the greater the number of particles per area or per volume, the more dense it is, and conversely, less number of particles per area or volume is called less density or sparse.

Similarly, the presence of more population in an area than the area is said to have more density and having less population than the area is called low density. Example: In India, there is less population in rural areas, whereas in urban areas there is more population on less area due to which the density of population of urban area is more and the density of population of rural area is less.

Question for you - Describe how the density of the plain area population will be less or more than the population of mountainous regions in India? Uttaranchal is a hilly region while Uttar Pradesh is a plain region. Tell us which population density will be higher in Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal? Now search in the book or on the internet, are your guesses correct?

Think of it like this -

What are the reasons for greater population density in cities?

What are the areas of density of overpopulation in the world and why?

What could be the reasons for the high or low population density?

3. Population distribution - The distribution of population in a region or regions is called the distribution of population in that area or regions, this distribution is not always equal. There is a population gathered in an area, then somewhere far away.

 • 60 percent of the world's population lives on 5 percent of the world's terrestrial area.

• 65 percent of the world's land is inhabited by only 3 percent of the world's population.

• 90 percent of the world's population is found in the northern hemisphere and 10 percent of the world's population in the southern hemisphere.

Write the trend of population growth in the world.

The population of the world increased in the following way.

It is clear from the tables and graphs that the world population rate is increasing steadily from 0001 AD to 2020. From 0001 to 1300 AD, this growth rate was 0.1. By 1650 it doubled to 0.2, this was the time when agriculture was developing. By 1804, the effect of industrialization increased the population rate to 0.79. With industrialization and agricultural expansion, the rate increased to 3.33 in 1960, 7.14 in 1974 and 7.69 in 1987. The trend of population growth is not the same all over the world. The state of the highest population growth in the state of development first came to Europe with industrialization. After that came in East, South Eastern and Southern Asia, followed by this situation in African countries. Currently, Africa has the highest population growth rate among all continents, indicating this trend. At present, even though the population growth rate of Europe is minimal, the world gross population growth rate is not decreasing due to the above reasons.

Density of world population

The land of the world is fixed and the population is increasing continuously, due to which the average population and density of the world is increasing with the increase in the average density. Present World Average Population Density -

                                                          Total population of the world

         Average Population Density = ---------------------------------

Total area of the world's land

= 25 people per square km.

The distribution of population = density in the world is uneven. While the population density of Singapore was 7894 persons per sq km on 1 July 2019 (according to Wikipedia) in the world, the population density of a big country like Canada was 10 persons per sq km on 1 July 2018 and 5.4 persons per sq km of Mongolia. . (According to Wikipedia).

Distribution of Population in the World

The distribution of population in the world is not uniform. Population distribution in the world is influenced by natural factors (climate, land, availability of water, fertility of land, localities etc.) and human factors (cultural, economic, social and political).

Some countries have the maximum population in the world, while some countries have the lowest population
